Aspens on Fire, Maroon Bells

Posted 10.14.15 in New Photos Blog

I believe that tomorrow isn't promised to you so you better live each day to it's fullest! We are but a dot on this planet and we live such short lives so I try to live each day as it could be my last.

I am blessed to be able to travel a lot and as I experience new locations I try and wakeup before the sunrise. That's my time of peace and I am normally by myself. I am always looking for amazing locations so I planned to be here at Maroon Bells near Aspen, CO as the fall colors where changing. Aspen trees are truly amazingly unique trees and this day their fall colors where at their peak. When most people think of the largest living organism on the planet, they usually think of a blue whale or a giant sequoia red wood tree. But the fact of the matter is the largest living organism is the aspen grove. Aspen trees are connected to each other by a massive roots system creating a large biomass. As one tree changes color so do all of the trees connected to the same root system.

Every morning while in Aspen I would wake up at 4am and make it up to Maroon Bells for that sunrise. There's a spiritual feeling that fills a need I have that's hard to explain. I need pure pristine nature in my life like you would need air or food. There's something inside of me that desires it and that natural high is something I am always in search of. I know now that I'll never fill that craving as long as I live. I am 33 years young now so I have a long life to live.  I hope you will follow along my journey.... It will be filled with views like this one... Peace be with you... I hope you enjoy my passion for these locations... I'll never stop exploring this beautiful world!

Cheers and Blessings
Douglas Stratton

There are some moments in your life that you put yourself in the right place and at the right time. Photographing this remote beach this night was pure bliss. I knew everything was coming together! The moon had just set and I had reached the beach as it dipped below the trees. My eyes refocused to see stars scattering the sky like that of the ancient times. I love what I do and I hope you enjoy my passion for capturing the natural beauty around all of us at all different times of the day. This was just my imagination running away with me.

Shadows' Flame

As I walk in the shadows I see light beams from the sun finding their way down this slot canyon. I follow my path and my journey where it takes me I do not know. You can't hide from the truth
Because the truth is all there is.

Walking along the pristine sugar white and pink sand beaches of Harbour Island is like walking into a dream. This afternoon I had the experience of swimming with a horse and it's rider. I feel as if horses are divine creatures because they reflect back the emotions you put forth. If you show love respect, kindness, curiosity, the horse will respond the same way. I try and treat people I meet the same way. I was always taught to treat others the way you would like to be treated.

Spælsau Sheep near the small village of Yttersand along the Lofoten Island coast. I started hiking along a bluff near the small village and these sheep seem to come out of nowhere. I started talking to the baby and he came to meet me. It was a beautiful moment under a midnight sun during an endless summer in Norway.

The Wave of Sand

Posted 01.28.15 in New Photos Blog

The Vermillion Cliffs is easly one of my favorite locations in the entire world. To walk these lands at any time of the day is like walking in a dream. It's because of these places I feel more connected to the world around me. The Paria Canyon and Vermillion cliffs are remnants of the largest desert ever to evolve on the planet! Two hundred millions years ago, this desert stretched from central Wyoming to southern Nevada, rivaling the Sahara in size. These immense sand dunes accumulated over a period of 20 millions years. As the huge dunes shifted and moved in response to changing wind directions, tilted beds formed, and cross stratification occurred. Thus the wave and many other areas where formed...

The Wave is located on the Colorado Plateau, near the Utah and Arizona border. The area is a gallery of gruesomely twisted sandstone, resembling deformed pillars, cones, mushrooms and other odd creations. Deposits of iron claim some of the responsibility for the unique blending of color twisted in the rock, creating a dramatic rainbow of pastel yellows, pinks and reds.

Amnesia Photographed 2015

Posted 01.15.15 in New Photos Blog

This Photograph was taken under a Full moon known as the "Wolf Moon". January is the month of the full Wolf Moon. It appeared when wolves howled in hunger outside the villages. This was shot on one of the coldest nights in South Carolina on a deserted beach full of driftwood. These beaches are knows as a "Boneyards". Boneyard's are called this because of the bleach skeletons of oaks along the beach.  I am truly blessed to be able to make photographs like this! I hope you enjoy...

Beautiful stars, do keep your eyes on me!

Waves of Buttes Vermillion Cliffs

Posted 12.29.14 in New Photos Blog

Coyote Buttes is a section of the Paria Canyon-Vermilion Cliffs Wilderness spanning the extreme South Central Utah and North Central Arizona. Swirled bands of color run through the petrified sandstone, which has eroded into interesting shapes. The colors and shapes change with the light as the day progresses. Red, pink and yellow rock has been blended together to form castles, beehives, chutes and other structures. Free your mind and your ass will follow!
