American Southwest
Exploring the American Southwest as a photographer is an exercise in patience, adaptability, and reverence for natural forces. The region’s vast, arid landscapes sculpted canyons, towering mesas, and sprawling deserts demand an understanding of light, weather, and geological time.
The work is often solitary, dictated by the rhythms of dawn and dusk, when the sun’s angle transforms the terrain into a dynamic interplay of shadow and texture.
Chasing the light here is less about control than surrender. The Southwest’s extreme conditions, harsh midday sun, fleeting storm clouds, or the soft glow of twilight require flexibility. A photographer must anticipate shifts in weather, track the sun’s trajectory, and sometimes abandon plans when conditions change. The goal is not to impose a vision but to witness and capture the land’s inherent drama as it unfolds.
